Piercing Consciousness: Reimaging the Voices of Immigrant Children through Storytelling and Art
This session brings together the voices an Artist, Omari Booker, an Afro ? Honduran immigrant who came to the United States as a child, Maranjaly Zapata Lalin and her lawyer ? now divinity school student, Karla McKanders. The session will focus on how three different voices came together to collaborate on a children?s book aimed at educating both children and their parents on the migration stories of immigrant children through the story of an Afro ? Honduran, Garifuna child?s story of fleeing Honduras and her experience in the United States. During the session, they will explore how through collaboration, art and storytelling the voices of lesser known immigrant children can bring about a radical revolution of values.
