WASHINGTON, D.C. — Ten-year-old Susie Flynn, who last month launched her “presidential campaign” to help the nine million children without health insurance in America, began the third phase of her campaign by airing radio ads in several major media markets throughout the country. The ad, part of the Children’s Defense Fund’s (CDF) campaign to insure all children this year, began running on high-profile stations in selected states last week.
“Our government doesn’t seem to care that nine million children have no health insurance,” says Susie Flynn in the radio spot. “Even though every dollar spent immunizing children against illness saves more than 16 dollars in medical costs to make them better. Doesn’t anyone see? We’re wasting money and allowing children to get sick. I am Susie Flynn. A vote for me is a vote for the nine million uninsured children.”
The ad will be playing in markets throughout the country, including Little Rock, Ark., Ann Arbor, Mich., Searchlight and Morgantown, Nev., Bismarck, N.D., New Hartford and Cumming, Iowa, Alburn and Bangor, Maine, and Concord, N.H. To listen to or download the ad, click here.
CDF and its advertising partner, Fallon Worldwide, recently launched the second phase of the “Elect Susie” campaign with a two-week long rotation of five television ads on CNN and CNN Headline News in all major media markets in the country. The “Elect Susie” campaign began in early March with a “station domination” ad campaign in Washington, DC’s Union Station, the launch of the ElectSusie.com website, the creation of “Friends of Susie Flynn” profiles on MySpace, Facebook and Care2 social networking sites, and ads in more than 1,000 movie theatres nationwide.
“The Elect Susie media campaign is a way to draw attention to the shocking reality of how many children in America are uninsured and how insuring all children is the smart, right, and moral thing to do,” said CDF spokesperson Neel Lattimore. “Listeners should be outraged that this is happening in our country and tell their elected leaders to do something about it. We hope these ads will inspire them to join us by calling on Congress to pass the All Healthy Children Act (H.R. 1688), which would provide health insurance to America’s nine million uninsured children.”
