Joselyn Guaman immigrated to the United States from Ecuador at the age of eleven. She was the first in her family to graduate from college–she graduated from St Joseph’s College with a major in Mathematics and Computer Science. For the past several years, Joselyn has been involved in different capacities with community work within various organizations throughout New York City. As part of her work, she also supports schools in learning how to support and empower their immigrant students and their families. Joselyn’s commitment to her community expands beyond her roles as a immigration justice community organizer and social justice educator; she is a mentor and academic advisor at Camp Equity, where she is a Celebrating Black Lives Counselor. She is a 2014 CDF-NY Beat the Odds Rising Star Scholarship recipient.
