Dr. Khyle B. Wooten (he/him), a native of Philadelphia, PA, is Associate Director of Choral Activities and Assistant Professor of Music Education at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He maintains professional activities as a conductor, educator, clinician, researcher, and composer.
Previously, Dr. Wooten maintained middle and high school teaching posts with charter schools in Philadelphia and Atlanta. At present, he leads ongoing research on Black women composers and choral music pedagogues and presents regularly at local and national choral music conferences. He is an inaugural fellow of the Future of Music Faculty Fellowship with the Cleveland Institute of Music. Additionally, Dr. Wooten has completed commissions for the Cincinnati Song Initiative, Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra MINA String Quartet, and Kairos Opera. His recent works include “Life and Death (TTBB)” and “The Dream Keeper (SA).” Dr. Wooten is the co-founder and principal conductor of the Sankofa Vocal Collective in Atlanta.
Dr. Wooten holds degrees in music education and choral conducting from Lincoln University of PA (B.S.), Georgia State University (M.M.), and Florida State University (Ph.D.).
